In a video game of her life, Katy fights to get back her smile

In a world full of clowns, what does true happiness look like? This ambitious question is at the heart of “Smile,” director Mathew Miguel Cullen’s fifth music video collaboration with Katy Perry. In the video, Katy discovers a mysterious video game that is in fact a stylized representation of her own life, set in a deceptively cheery circus world. As she battles sad clowns, lonely werewolves, and spider-women, she discovers surprising truths about herself and the power of self-love and forgiveness. To create the dazzling multi-layered world of the game, Mirada designed a colorful series of circus-themed challenges and rewards, where Katy’s own avatar becomes a modern-day heroine that transforms the reality of Katy herself. The video premiered as the first music video ever on Facebook Live.
